<html><body><p>Button Clash is a 2-player game where you compete against another person to push an arcade button multiple times before the other person does! </p><figure><img src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/a1a4532e-3914-4f03-b69d-abdf2bc84a28.gif"/><figcaption>After the starting melody, each player needs to rush and push the button as fast as possible to arrive to the half of the UNO's Matrix before the other player!</figcaption></figure><p>The game starts when someone presses one of the modulino buttons or both players hold down the arcade buttons at the same time. A starting melody will play to start the race. Each player will press the button as fast as possible and with each press the LEDs of the Arduino Uno R4 Matrix Led will start to fill up the screen. The one that arrives first to fill half of the Matrix LED screen wins! </p><h3>Needed material from the Plug and Make kit</h3><p>Before we begin, let's gather all the necessary components from the Plug and Make kit: </p><ol><li>1x Arduino UNO R4 Wifi. </li><li>1x Modulino Base with the spacers. </li><li>1x Modulino Buzzer. </li><li>1x Modulino Buttons. </li><li>2x Qwiic cables. </li><li>Multiple M3 or M2.5 Screws and nuts. </li></ol><p>The game was created with an Arduino Plug and Make kit and two arcade buttons. A modulino buzzer will make different melodies and individual sounds for each player making the game more exciting while the modulino buttons will serve to start the game, abort an ongoing game or control different options. <strong>Additionally, you will need two Arcade Buttons to build the game. </strong></p><h3>The Arcade Buttons</h3><p>Arcade buttons are awesome! These buttons have been used for decades in different arcade games and other applications where big and satisfying-to-press buttons are a must. </p><p> </p><figure><img src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/9eeec4a1-2074-4626-93a9-b7f4e91ec747.png"/><figcaption>Arcade Button drawing - An arcade button normally have two parts, the button and the holder of the light which also serves as button's support.</figcaption></figure><p> </p><p>In this game we use two white arcade buttons with a 100 mm (4 inches) diameter. However, you can use any arcade button you already have, no matter the size, but is highly <strong>recommended to use those ones with a light inside to have more fun while playing! </strong></p><h3>Game Assembly</h3><p>The game is really easy to build thanks to the Plug and Make kit, but you will need to do some small soldering to connect the arcade buttons to your Arduino Uno R4. </p><div id="gallery"><img id="gallery" src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/9a6cecfe-2533-4968-a375-4bbab252a60a.jpg"/><figcaption>1- Attach your Arduino UNO to the base plate using M3 screws.</figcaption>,<img id="gallery" src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/27aa34de-f877-4e91-83c9-b937fd76bde8.jpg"/><figcaption>2- Attach a modulino buzzer to your base plate near the Arduino UNO board and the modulino buttons near the bottom part of the base plate.</figcaption>,<img id="gallery" src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/37cb5496-a52a-49af-bd4c-cf5648c29a3d.jpg"/><figcaption>3- Connect the modulinos to the Arduino UNO using the QWIIC cables.</figcaption>,<img id="gallery" src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/411f5a26-52cb-4776-ac48-edf48adb4e97.jpg"/><figcaption>4- Connect the arcade buttons using unifilar cables to the Arduino UNO pins, take a look at the connection diagram available in this project.</figcaption>,<img id="gallery" src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/08c5f64e-66ed-4539-ae09-c7464edd2fa0.jpg"/><figcaption>5- Now the project is ready! Connect your UNO to the computer, open the project sketch and upload it, arcade buttons should light up and make sounds when pressed, press both buttons or the modulino buttons to start playing!</figcaption></div><h3>Connecting the cables</h3><p>You will need to solder, or attach with tape or any other method, unifilar cables to the arcade buttons' contacts. Use the following connection diagram to know how to connect each button to your Arduino Uno R4. </p><p> </p><figure><img src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/f021da1c-66e8-43c3-b606-059cd72285bf.png"/><figcaption>Connection diagram. Vertical contacts are the buttons (red-black), horizontal ones are the buttons' lights (yellow-black).</figcaption></figure><p> </p><p>Take a quick look at your arcade buttons, you will find that the button has four contacts: </p><ol><li>The vertical contacts are the ones that give you the status of the buttons. </li><li>The horizontal contacts control the light of each arcade button. </li></ol><p>Solder, or attach by any other method, unifilar cables to the contact of your buttons and connect them following the diagram from above. Once you have all the buttons connected, you only need to connect the modulino buzzer and modulino buttons to the Arduino UNO R4. </p><h3>Creating the holder for the game</h3><p>To hold your project together you can use whatever materials and methods you have available. You can create your own wooden panel as we did, or just use an old cardboard box to attach the buttons and the Plug and Make kit, having a portable game, or even attach it to a wall. Could be those big buttons the eyes of a robot? Any material you have available can serve to create your own version of the game.</figcaption></div><h3>Uploading the program</h3><p>Once everything is connected and assembled you just need to go to the GitHub Project and download the Arduino sketch. Connect your Arduino UNO R4 to your computer, compile the sketch and upload it into your Arduino UNO R4 Wifi. You can use the game to decide who will clean the dishes or take out the trash each night! Take a look at the code and change it to make other similar games, like a duel where the person who presses the button before the other player just after a buzzer sound wins. Don't be afraid of smashing the buttons as fast as you can and at any cost let the other player win! </p><p> </p></body></html>
