<html><body><h3>Introduction</h3><p>The best way to get sound from an Arduino is with a separate audio decoder. In this tutorial we'll show you how to use the DFPlayer Mini to play MP3s. </p><p>There are two modes of operation with the DFPlayer Mini: one is using a small speaker that you can connect directly to the DF player and the second is using an op amp to give your sound a boost. Let's compare the two. </p><p><em>Note: In this tutorial I am using a pre-soldered pcb board with a DFPlayer and some additional components used in an upcoming project. These other components can be ignored. </em></p><h3>Option 1: Direct "Tiny Speaker" Connection</h3><h3><a href="https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/basic%20circuit%20diagram.png">https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/basic%20circuit%20diagram.png</a></h3><p>The most basic setup just using a direct speaker connection with a low watt speaker. Using a 9v battery to connect the Vin on the arduino will give us 5v and 3.3 volt output for powering the DFPlayer Mini. </p><ol><li>Connect the ground and 5v power to the DF player </li><li>Connect RX and TX from pin 2 and 3 of DF player to arduino Serial Port (here 3) pins 14 and 15 on Arduino Mega </li><li>Connect pins 6 and 8 from the DF Player to your tiny 1 watt speaker. </li></ol><p>At this point run the code in the project. </p><p> </p><figure><img src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/ed8a06f6-69fd-4b5d-afc5-fb699d151443.png"/><figcaption></figcaption></figure><h3>Option 2: Op Amp Version</h3><p><a href="https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/opamp%20diagram.png">https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/opamp%20diagram.png </a></p><p>Now we're going to show you how to connect up the Op Amp version of the DFPlayer Mini to get a little bit more oomph. We can start with the same basic circuit from Option 1 but disconnect the speaker. Here we’ll use the 9v battery directly to power the op amp. See the circuit diagram to build the op amp, or you can buy prefabricated op amp break out boards. We are using a bigger speaker, a 10 watt speaker 4 Ohms. </p><ol><li>Build or buy op amp circuit </li><li>Connect to the DAC_R pin on the DF Player to the input of the Op Amp circuit. </li></ol><p> </p><figure><img src="https://projects.arduinocontent.cc/6312f1ba-453c-4db4-a915-fb877122602e.png"/><figcaption></figcaption></figure><h3>The Code</h3><h3><a href="https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/arduino_mp3.ino">https://github.com/alittletech1/notes/blob/main/related/audio/arduino_mp3.ino</a></h3><p>There are many Arduino libraries for the DFPlayer. The code used here is just the basic DFPlayer library from Makuna. I’ve modified it to simply repeat the first 7 audio files in a loop. You would need to copy the MP3 files from the downloads section and copy onto your DFPLayer’s SD CARD under a folder called “MP3”. They are named 0001.mp3 - 0007.mp3 and represent the piano notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B. </p><h3>Conclusion</h3><p>As you can hear when running the code, you would want to go with the op amp if you had any sort of real aspirations of creating a project that people could hear in a crowded room.
